The Greene County boys and girls golf seasons got underway April 5 against Carroll. The boys played at Breda and the girls played at The Hill east of Grand Junction.
Carroll won the boys match 174-191. Carroll’s Drew Munson was medalist at three over par 38, and teammate Ty Nissen was runner-up with a round of 39. The Rams’ counting scores were Sawyer Schiltz 46, Joe Carey 46, Kole Teeples 48, and Caden Telleen 51.
“I am really happy with our team score tonight. It is a great start to the season and our numbers will continue to improve. Several of our varsity kids played the first competition round of their careers and it’s great to get this experience under their belt,” stated coach Heath Telleen.
Carroll won the girls contest 212-263. Tiger Grace Pettitt was meet medalist, carding 44. Alexandria Miller led the Rams with 52, which earned runner-up medalist honors. Following Miller was Brianna Habben 65, Josey Weaver 71, and Eliot Schilling 75.
Greene County managed to golf Thursday, April 8, in wet, windy, and cool conditions. The girls team hosted Perry, Des Moines Christian, and Gilbert at The Hill and the boys played at the Perry Country Club against DMC and the Blue Jays.
The Ram boys shot 199 for second place behind Des Moines Christian. The Lions shot 169 while Perry finished with 242. Joe Carey, a Paton-Churdan junior, shot 41 for nine holes and was runner-up medalist. Sawyer Schiltz shot 47 and Caden Telleen tallied 54. Jack Hansen, Nathan Behne and Kole Teeples each fired 57.
The Ram girls squad had a nine-hole total of 257 for third place. Alex Miller fired 59 with Habben at 62, Weaver 67, and Schilling 69. Ballard easily won the quad with 178, followed by DMC at 213. Perry, with only three golfers, was unable to post a team score. Ballard freshman Eden Lorbach shot 38 for medalist honors.
